Lucy was just 17 when she married Henry Knox, against her parents' wishes and social rank. Her family disowned her and she never saw them again. She spent much of the war separated from her beloved Henry, though she later joined him at camp (Valley Forge). She befriended George and Martha Washington and left behind a rich collection of wartime correspondence. This sweet pillow commemorates that love, with Henry's comment: "I am always talking inwardly to her."
